Kamala Harris was born on October 20, 1964. She is the first black woman to be elected as the district attorney in California. She also succeeded in being the first black woman to be the attorney general and an Indian American senator. Now, she’s the running mate of Joe Biden.

So, what do we know about Kamala Harris? Here are a few things you may not know about Ms. Harris.

  • Harris held a protest against the building owner for not letting the children play in the building’s lawn area. This was when she was 13 years old.

  • As a student, she dreamed of becoming a lawyer. Harris always opposed the death penalty and has got into controversy because of it. She became the San Francisco Attorney General in 2003.

  • Her father is an economics professor at Stanford University.

  • Her friendship with former President Barack Obama dates back to 2004 during his run for the senate.

  • She questioned Joe Biden about the cross-district busing in the 1970s while using a personal anecdote: “There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools. And she was bused to school every day,” she said. “And that little girl was me.”
